Somewhere between the hairdresser and the car there is a table with the rings, the letters, the perfume and a grandmother’s brooch on it. That table is worth ten minutes.

The morning table
This is the ten minutes. A robe, a mother, a ring going onto a hand, and the light left exactly where it fell.
Where to put the table
Near a window, away from the bed, and clear of anything not going in the frame. Ten minutes at the right table beats an hour at the wrong one.
Set out the small things the night before. It buys back the whole morning.
